Quick update because I haven’t posted in a while. It’s been a really inspiring month! CAKE was the weekend of the 15th and 16th, which was awesome; it made me feel so encouraged and excited about the comics community right here in Chicago. I got my copy of Lisa Hannawalt’s new book signed by her at Quimby’s and continued to make a total dweeb of myself in front of her, as I seem so inclined to do. Also bought a lot of great new comics and zines, some by familiar names, some new!
Also, last night I saw an amazing documentary about the illustrator Tomi Ungerer called “Far Out Isn’t Far Enough” (thanks to Joy for the tip!). Highly recommend it to anyone who has access to it (indie theater release). I was stunned by Ungerer’s breadth and depth of drawing practice, as well as what he’s overcome in order to be the success he is today.
Finally, things are progressing with my new, first-ever mini comic, titled “It’s Happening”. I have set a deadline for myself to have it finished in about one month. I am pleased with the product so far and I’m super excited to share it with people! I will post more once it is fully realized.
